There is the POI DP Global Instance at http://poi.lab.fiware.org/poi_dp/ . It can be manually and visually browsed using the Demo POI Browser http://poi.lab.fiware.org/pois/ . It is currently populated with POIs from OpenStreetMap starting with Europe. Currently, the only proven way for mass-importing POIs is using the OpenStreetMap-import process described in detail in the tools/poi_osm_import/readme.txt in the FIWARE-POIDataProvider work area. To have some protection from malicious updates you might want to use the new access_control branch of the software (soon to be merged to the master branch).
