2017-03-02 17:47:39 +0200 asked a question What is the current state of FIWARE IoT Edge GEs? particularly, the Protocol Adaptor and Gateway Logic GEs?

I wanted to check on the curent status of the FIWARE IoT Edge GEs. They still appear as part of the FIWARE IoT architecture here: https://forge.fiware.org/plugins/medi...ofThings(IoT)ServicesEnablementArchitecture, but not actively on the FIWARE catalogue.

I understand the Protocol Adaptor is deprecated, based on what I see in the catalogue.

Regarding the Gateway Logic GE, it seems it was never implemented even though the specification for it appears in an older release under the name of IoT.Gateway.DeviceManagement: https://forge.fiware.org/plugins/medi...

Does it mean these two GEs are completely out of the picture and IDEC is the only active edge component in FIWARE? Or are there still plans to implement the Gateway Logic and Protocol Adaptor GEs in next releases?

Many thanks in advance for clarifying.

Kind regards,

2017-02-16 16:20:18 +0200 commented answer How to monetize IoT/Context data?

Also, is it possible to control access/metering/accounting etc. at a entitiy level? i.e. as opposed to access to the whole context broker instance? Many thanks again.

Thank you very much Francisco. Indeed this clarifies quite a bit. So if I understand correctly, it is possible to make a solution directly between Context Broker and Business Framework without having to go through CKAN (if one wishes to do so). Correct?

2017-02-16 14:55:24 +0200 asked a question How to monetize IoT/Context data?

Hi,

If we wanted to monetize the real-time data coming from an IoT infrastructure, I am assuming the best way to do this would be to flow the IoT data to an Orion Context Broker, then use some Business Framework GE functionality to control the access, provisioning, monetization etc. of this data.

Could you kindly confirm if the real time data is already supported by the Business Framework? Can we meter, and monetize the usage of real time IoT data with the current version of components?

Also do we have to involve CKAN? or is it possible to do it directly through the Context broker, since it's real time data that we are mostly interested in monetizing?

Many thanks in advance for your reply.

2017-02-01 14:16:17 +0200 asked a question Any examples/GEs for ingestion of large XML files with complex schemas?

Hi,

Are there any FIWARE use cases/demo applications or GEs that deal with ingestion/intake and validation of large XML files with complex schemas?

I thought perhaps some GEs from the Advanced Web UI chapter could be dealing with this type of large XML files, perhaps especially when processing geographical data. i.e. POI server, or 3D UI GE, etc? Is this really the case?

Or are there GEs from other FIWARE chapters that are dealing with similar issues around the intake of large XML files?

Many thanks in advance for any pointers. Kind regards,

2016-10-21 14:36:36 +0200 asked a question NGSI and CartoDB integration

When searching about NGSI and CartoDB integration, I came across three different components:

  • an NGSI connector to CartoDB: ("https://github.com/telefonicaid/fiware-orion2cartodb")

  • A CartoDB backend for Cygnus: ("http://fiware-cygnus.readthedocs.io/en/latest/cygnus-common/backendscatalogue/cartodbbackend/index.html")

  • An NGSI CartoDB sink: ("http://fiware-cygnus.readthedocs.io/en/latest/cygnus-ngsi/flumeextensionscatalogue/ngsicartodbsink/index.html")

Which component is used in which case? Are they used together? or separately for different cases? etc..

And are they used for live NGSI data as well as historic data? or one of the two only?

Thanks in advance for any clarifications.

2016-10-10 13:29:09 +0200 commented answer Any plans to support OPC UA ?

Thanks very much Franck and Fermin for the info. I also recall something called NGSI adaptors. Is that something very different? or another option we should consider? For some reason all the information I find on NGSI adaptors points to the Sextant monitoring tool, perhaps not so relevant then? Thanks

2016-10-05 15:59:15 +0200 asked a question Any plans to support OPC UA ?

Hi,

OPC UA is a standardized M2M Industry 4.0 protocol that connects shop floor machines to the internet. See "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OPCUnifiedArchitecture" .

We are wondering if there are any plans to support OPC UA in FIWARE? in IoT or Data Chapter for instance?

If no plans yet, would you have any suggestions as to how to interface with OPC UA from FIWARE?

Many thanks in advance for your help. Kind regards,
